Royals 4, Braves 3 (10): Alex Gordon opened the scoring with a leadoff homer in the first inning and ended it with a one-out RBI single in the 10th as Kansas City gained a two-game series split with visiting Atlanta.

David Lough led off the 10th with a single to center field off Alex Wood (0-2) and was sacrificed to second by Miguel Tejada before Gordon delivered the opposite-field base hit to left to give the Royals their second win in seven games. Aaron Crow (4-3) worked the top of the 10th for the victory.

Gordon began the bottom of the first with a shot to right-center off Mike Minor for his first blast since May 9, ending a 42-game homerless streak. Salvador Perez delivered an RBI base hit later in the inning and Billy Butler singled home a run in the third to give Kansas City a 3-0 lead.

Royals starter Luis Mendoza pitched 6 2/3 strong innings before leaving with two runners on in the seventh. Bruce Chen allowed an RBI single by pinch-hitter Reed Johnson and Luke Hochevar gave up a two-run base hit by Justin Upton to tie it.

Mendoza was charged with two runs and five hits. Minor gave up three runs and nine hits in six innings.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Gordon and Perez each had three hits for Kansas City, which recorded 12 overall. … Upton had only six RBIs over his last 32 contests prior to the game-tying single. … The leadoff homer was the 10th of Gordon’s career.
