Red Sox 7, Blue Jays 5: Jonny Gomes hit a tiebreaking single in the seventh inning as the host Red Sox shaded struggling Toronto.

Boston loaded the bases with one out before Gomes greeted Brett Cecil with the go-ahead single past a diving Maicer Izturis. Jarrod Saltalamacchia drew a five-pitch walk to make it 7-5, and the Red Sox bullpen held on from there to hand the Blue Jays their fourth loss in five games.

Andrew Miller (1-2) earned the victory with 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief while Koji Uehara struck out two in a perfect ninth for his third save in as many nights. Neil Wagner (1-2) absorbed the loss for Toronto after allowing the first two Boston hitters to reach base in the seventh.

The Red Sox chased Toronto starter Josh Johnson early, forcing him to throw 90 pitches over just 3 1/3 innings. Stephen Drew belted a two-run triple to straightaway center field in the second, Mike Napoli added an RBI single in the third and Jacoby Ellsbury had a two-run single in the fourth.

Toronto stormed back with three runs in the fifth, closed the gap to 5-4 on Izturis' sacrifice fly in the sixth and drew even on Edwin Encarnacion's solo blast in the seventh that just cleared the center field wall.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Johnson surrendered five runs on eight hits while striking out five. Boston counterpart Allen Webster was charged with four runs on six hits over six innings. ... Drew left in the fourth inning with tightness in his hamstring. ... Encarnacion has 15 home runs in 40 road games in 2013.
