Diamondbacks 9, Marlins 2: Paul Goldschmidt hit two-run homers in his first two at-bats and matched a career high with four hits and Trevor Cahill pitched eight strong innings as visiting Arizona handed Miami its sixth straight loss.

Goldschmidt and Eric Chavez, who also had four hits, homered on back-to-back pitches in the first inning to lead the Diamondbacks to their third straight victory in a 16-hit performance. Cahill (3-4) yielded one run on five hits and struck out four, and he threw first-pitch strikes to 24-of-30 batters while recording only one fly-ball out.

Chavez and Cody Ross had two RBIs apiece and Goldschmidt, who scored a career-high four runs, fell a triple shy of the cycle. Greg Dobbs had three hits and scored twice while Kevin Slowey (1-4) allowed six runs and seven hits in three innings for the Marlins, who have lost nine of their last 10.

Gerardo Parra had three hits for Arizona, including a leadoff double in the first inning. Two batters later, Slowey left an 0-2 curveball up in the zone and Goldschmidt crushed it over the left-field wall before Chavez followed with a blast down the right-field line.

In the third inning, Didi Gregorius singled with one out and Goldschmidt fouled off six straight 3-2 pitches before delivering his 12th home run of the season. Chavez followed with a single and Martin Prado knocked him in with a single to make it 6-0 as Arizona went on to its eighth win in 11 games.
