Orioles 8, Rockies 4: Brian Roberts and Manny Machado drove in two runs apiece during a seven-run third inning as host Baltimore snapped a four-game losing streak.

Adam Jones had three hits for the Orioles, who moved within three games of a wild-card spot and remained 5 1/2 behind Boston in the American League East. Bud Norris (3-1) yielded four runs and nine hits in 5 2/3 innings in his fifth start with Baltimore since being acquired at the trade deadline from Houston.

Dexter Fowler recorded a pair of RBI singles for the Rockies, who were victimized by Troy Tulowitzki's error in the third inning that was followed by five Baltimore runs. Chad Bettis (0-2) yielded eight runs (two earned) and seven hits while walking four in 2 2/3 innings in his fourth major-league start.

Nick Markakis' RBI single snapped a 1-1 tie in the third and after Matt Wieters' groundout moved runners up to second and third, Tulowitzki couldn't scoop Steve Pearce's routine roller, allowing Jones to score. Ryan Flaherty popped up for the second out before Roberts delivered a two-run double to right.

Nate McLouth walked and Machado followed with a two-run double to right and scored two batters later on Jones' single. The Rockies cut the lead to 8-4 with two runs in the sixth - capped by Fowler's run-scoring hit - but Tulowitzki struck out two batters later with two aboard to end the threat.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Baltimore's J.J. Hardy, who leads all shortstops with 22 home runs and 66 RBIs, was a late scratch from the lineup because of back spasms. Hardy had his 11-game hitting streak snapped Friday. ... Colorado activated closer Rafael Betancourt from the disabled list and optioned RHP Manny Corpas to Triple-A Colorado Springs. Betancourt, who has been sidelined since July 20 because of appendicitis, pitched a perfect eighth inning. ... Orioles RHP Troy Patton had his consecutive game streak without a walk end at 26 when he issued a free pass to Corey Dickerson - the only batter he faced - in the sixth inning. Koji Uehara holds the club record with 36 straight contests.
