Yankees 3, Orioles 2 (12): Raul Ibanez led off the 12th inning with his second home run of the night, giving host New York a 2-1 advantage in its American League Division Series.

After launching a solo shot off Baltimore closer Jim Johnson as a pinch hitter in the ninth, Ibanez crushed the first pitch of the 12th from Brian Matusz (0-1) into the second deck in right field. The blast made a winner of David Robertson (1-0), who tossed two scoreless innings.

Rookies Ryan Flaherty and Manny Machado hit solo shots for the Orioles, who fell to 16-3 in extra innings this year - with all three losses coming against the Yankees. Baltimore also lost for the first time when leading after seven innings (76-1) and dropped to 30-10 in one-run contests.

Flaherty opened the scoring with one out in the third, depositing Hiroki Kuroda's first offering into the seats in right field for his first career postseason home run. The 26-year-old hit six homers in 77 games during the regular season, his first in the major leagues.

The lead did not last long, however, as New York answered in the bottom half. Russell Martin doubled with one out and scored two batters later when center fielder Adam Jones appeared to misplay a deep fly by Derek Jeter into an RBI triple.

Machado gave Baltimore a 2-1 edge when he launched Kuroda's first pitch of the fifth inning into the Orioles' bullpen in left field. At 20 years, 96 days, Machado became the second-youngest player to homer in postseason history behind current Yankee Andruw Jones, who was left off the ALDS roster.

With Alex Rodriguez just 1-for-12 in the series with seven strikeouts, Yankees manager Joe Girardi opted for a pinch hitter against Johnson with Baltimore two outs away from a 2-1 series lead. The move proved brilliant as Ibanez belted a 1-0 offering over the wall in right for a game-tying homer.

Orioles rookie Miguel Gonzalez outdueled Kuroda as he allowed just one run and five hits over seven innings, striking out eight without a walk. Kuroda also pitched well, yielding two runs and five hits with a walk and three strikeouts in 8 1/3 frames.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Jeter left the game after striking out in the eighth with a foot injury. He fouled a ball off the foot in the third inning just before hitting his triple. ... In three starts against the Yankees this year, Gonzalez has recorded 25 strikeouts over 20 2/3 innings while allowing just five runs and 15 hits. ... Although he was unable to make the play on Jeter's catchable fly ball, Adam Jones managed to blow a bubble with his gum while running back toward the center-field wall.
