Hundley opened the scoring with an RBI double in the first inning off Eric Hacker (0-1), who was making his first major league start. Hacker gave up three runs with seven strikeouts over six innings.

After Angel Pagan evened the score with a solo shot in the first, San Diego scored twice in the fourth and added two more in the seventh off Jeremy Affeldt.

Luebke (3-1) allowed two runs on seven hits with no walks for the Padres, who won despite striking out 11 times with seven runners left on base. San Diego has won each of Luebke's last four starts.

Buster Posey cut into the Padres’ lead with his fourth home run off Andrew Cashner to lead off the eighth. Huston Street worked a scoreless ninth for his third save.

Giants third baseman Pablo Sandoval extended his hitting streak to 20 games, which is the second-longest in the majors to start a season in the last 30 years. Edgar Renteria hit in 23 straight in 2006.
