Padres 4, Dodgers 2: Chase Headley homered and had three RBIs as host San Diego handed Los Angeles its second straight loss.

Headley’s two-run double in the sixth off Chris Capuano (5-1) lifted the Padres into the lead as San Diego won its second consecutive game.

Clayton Richard (2-5) snapped a personal five-game losing skid with seven strong innings. Richard allowed two runs on four hits with six strikeouts and retired the final 11 batters he faced.

Andrew Cashner struck out the side in the eighth and Dale Thayer retired pinch hitter James Loney on a foul pop to third with a runner aboard in the ninth for his fourth save.

San Diego trailed 2-1 in the sixth when Cameron Maybin and Chris Denorfia hit one-out singles. Headley followed with a full-count smash into the left-center field gap to drive home both runners.

The Padres added a run in the seventh when Maybin drew a bases-loaded walk.

Los Angeles tallied twice in the opening inning as Tony Gwynn Jr. led off the contest with a single and scored on a double by Elian Herrera. Andre Ethier drove in Herrera later in the inning with a sacrifice fly.

Headley homered to left in the bottom of the first.

Capuano allowed four runs – three earned – and six hits in 6 1/3 innings.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Headley has five of San Diego’s major league-low 15 homers … The Dodgers are just 8-9 on the road … Richard is 6-1 in 10 career starts against Los Angeles … The double in the first was Herrera’s first major-league hit.
