Padres 3, Rockies 1:
Will Venable doubled, tripled and drove in the winning run as San Diego handed Colorado its fifth straight loss.

Yonder Alonso and Orlando Hudson also plated runs and Jeff Suppan pitched five solid innings for the Padres, who are 4-4 on their nine-game homestand.

After the Rockies got on the board in the top of the first, Venable led off the bottom of the inning with a triple and scored on Alonso's single. He delivered a double in the fifth to score Jason Bartlett and give San Diego a 2-1 lead.

The Padres added a run in the eighth as Alonso drew a leadoff walk and scored on Hudson's one-out triple.

Suppan (2-0) allowed one run and four hits in improving to 8-2 lifetime against Colorado. Four relievers bridged the gap to Dale Thayer, who notched his second save in as many nights despite giving up three hits in the ninth.

Alex White (0-1) was the hard-luck loser as he yielded only two runs and six hits in 6 1/3 innings.

Troy Tulowitzki and Tyler Colvin had two hits apiece for the Rockies, who are 0-2 on their eight-game road trip.
