Padres 9, Mariners 5: Clayton Richard had three RBIs – including the go-ahead two-run double – while winning his third straight start as host San Diego was victorious for just the second time in seven games.

Chase Headley also had three RBIs as the Padres beat Seattle for the fourth consecutive time this season.

The Padres recovered from an early 4-0 deficit and Richard delivered his two-run double off Kevin Millwood during a five-run fourth inning. Everth Cabrera hit a double prior to Richard’s hit into the right-field corner, and Will Venable’s single and Headley’s sacrifice fly plated the final two runs of the inning as San Diego took a 7-4 lead.

Richard (5-7) added a run-scoring single in the fifth and gave up five runs (three earned) and six hits in 6 2/3 innings while improving to 4-1 against the Mariners.

Huston Street recorded the final out for his ninth save by retiring Justin Smoak on a fly to left with two on in the ninth.

Seattle jumped on Richard early as Franklin Gutierrez hit a two-run homer in the first and Miguel Olivo belted a solo shot in the second. A sacrifice fly in the third by Justin Smoak gave Seattle a four-run lead.

Gutierrez recorded his second four-hit game of his career and Ichiro Suzuki added three hits for the Mariners.

Millwood (3-6) allowed eight runs (five earned) and eight hits in five innings.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Venable had three or more hits for the fourth time this season. He had a season-best four against Washington on May 15. … Seattle had won four straight games at Petco Park prior to Friday’s loss. … The nine runs were San Diego’s second-highest output of the season behind 11 scored against the New York Mets on May 24. … Millwood drops to 4-1 in nine career starts in San Diego – five coming at Qualcomm Stadium before the Padres moved to Petco Park.
