Athletics 12, Rangers 1: Rookie Jarrod Parker took a no-hitter into the eighth inning against the best offensive team in baseball and host Oakland scored eight runs in the second en route to a season-high output.

Texas' Michael Young drove a 0-1 pitch up the middle for a single to lead off the eighth and prevent Parker from becoming the fourth pitcher to throw a no-hitter this season and second in four days. The Mets’ Johan Santana no-hit St. Louis on Friday.

The right-handed Parker (2-2) pitched eighth innings of one-hit ball and has allowed only one run in his last three starts covering 21 innings. He retired 13 in a row between walks to Daniel Murphy leading off the third and to Elvis Andrus with one out in the seventh. Parker struck out six and walked three.

Brandon Inge had four RBIs for Oakland, which won for only the second time in its last 12 games.

The Athletics have scored an American League-low 185 runs and have been shut out 11 times in 2012. Every player in the lineup had at least one hit.

Inge had a three-run homer and run-scoring single in the second inning, when the Athletics sent 13 batters to the plate.

Chad Pennington snapped a 0-for-29 drought – the longest of his career – with an RBI double, Jemile Weeks had a two-run single and Seth Smith added an RBI single. Smith finished 4-for-4.

Scott Feldman (0-4) allowed eight runs and seven hits in 1 2/3 innings as Texas, which leads the majors with 303 runs scored, suffered its second lopsided loss in its last five games. The Rangers lost to Seattle 21-8 on Wednesday.

Kila Ka’aihue added a two-run homer in the fifth inning.

Mike Napoli homered off reliever Jim Miller in the ninth as Texas avoided its first shutout of the season.
