Rangers 6, Angels 2: Derek Holland pitched seven strong innings for his fourth straight win and visiting Texas evened the series with Los Angeles at one game apiece.

Geovany Soto belted a two-run homer and the Rangers rode a string of extra-base hits to stretch their lead atop the American League West to four games over Oakland and 7 1/2 ahead of the Angels.

Elvis Andrus had an RBI triple and Michael Young, Mike Napoli and Nelson Cruz each added run-scoring doubles to prevent Los Angeles from gaining ground in the wild card chase.

Holland (11-6) allowed two runs on six hits while striking out four and walking one. His only mistake was surrendering a two-run homer in the fifth to Alberto Callaspo that cut Texas' lead to 3-2.

Angels left-hander C.J. Wilson (12-10) lasted only 2 2/3 innings, giving up three runs on four hits and walking three to end his three-game winning streak. Jerome Williams kept the Angels in it with 4 1/3 innings of one-hit scoreless relief, but Garrett Richards surrendered Cruz's RBI double and Soto's homer in the eighth.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Rangers were without sluggers Josh Hamilton and Adrian Beltre. Hamilton sat out the game because of vision problems and is battling a sinus infection while Beltre was dealing with intestinal issues, taking 75 homers and 216 RBIs out of Texas' order. ... Angels CF Mike Trout's single in the first gave him 284 total bases, breaking the team's rookie record set by Devon White in 1987. ... Rangers RHP Tanner Scheppers is listed as day-to-day after an MRI exam on his right knee showed no structural damage.
