Athletics 4, Angels 2: C.J. Wilson’s throwing error fueled a three-run fourth inning as visiting Oakland defeated Los Angeles for the third straight night.

Kila Ka’aihue capped the fourth with a run-scoring single and Kurt Suzuki had an RBI-double in the opening inning as the Athletics evened their record at 7-7.

The Angels dropped to 4-9 in a disappointing start that leaves them seven games behind the first-place Texas Rangers in the American League West.

Wilson (2-1) walked the first two batters in the fourth then induced Seth Smith to hit a check-swing comebacker. Wilson’s throw to first was low and got past first baseman Albert Pujols as Yoenis Cespedes scored from second and Jonny Gomes came all the way around from first. Smith later scored on Ka’aihue’s sharp single to center.

Tommy Milone (2-1) gave up two runs and seven hits in five innings. Five relievers blanked the Angels over the final four innings with Grant Balfour retiring Torii Hunter on a game-ending double-play for his fourth save.

Pujols doubled three times in a game for the first time since doing so for the St. Louis Cardinals on August 11, 2006, but is homerless through 54 at-bats with the Angels - the longest season-opening drought of his career.

Los Angeles cut its deficit to 4-2 in the bottom of the fourth on a run-scoring double by Vernon Wells and an RBI-single by Mark Trumbo.

Wilson allowed four runs - three earned - and two hits in six innings. He struck out eight and walked three.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Pujols narrowly missed his first homer of the season when he doubled off the top of the left-field wall in the fifth. … The Athletics had just three hits. … Hunter reached base three times on a single and two walks. … Oakland outfielder Coco Crisp (flu) missed his second consecutive game.
