Cardinals 6, Padres 3: Carlos Beltran snapped a tie with a two-run homer in the fifth inning and Lance Lynn rebounded from a sluggish start to record his seventh win as host St. Louis completed a three-game sweep of San Diego.
After Matt Holliday singled to lead off the fifth, Beltran deposited a curveball from former Cardinal Jeff Suppan (2-3) just inside the foul pole in right. The blast was Beltran's National League-leading 14th of the season and first since May 13.
David Freese also homered and drove in two and Matt Adams collected his first career RBI with a run-scoring single in the first. Skip Schumaker had an RBI double for the Cardinals, who overcame a 3-0 deficit to drop the Padres to a league-worst 4-13 on the road.
Lynn (7-1) yielded a leadoff homer to Will Venable and two more runs in the first before settling down. The 25-year-old allowed three runs on eight hits in six innings.
Two relievers bridged the gap to Jason Motte, who retired the side in order in the ninth for his eighth save of the season.
Suppan dropped his third straight decision after permitting five runs on eight hits and walking four in 4 2/3 innings.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Venable fell a triple shy of the cycle, which would have been the first in Padres history. ... Suppan won the 2006 World Series with the Cardinals and also played with them in 2010. ... St. Louis placed third baseman Matt Carpenter on the 15-day disabled list with an oblique injury.
