Brewers 4, Pirates 1: Yovani Gallardo struck out a career-best 14 and Aramis Ramirez delivered the tiebreaking single as host Milwaukee downed Pittsburgh.

Gallardo (8-6) allowed one run and four hits and didn’t walk anyone in seven standout innings while improving to 8-2 against the Pirates.

Andrew McCutchen’s fifth homer in four games represented Pittsburgh’s lone run against Gallardo and the Brewers broke through with four sixth-inning runs to halt A.J. Burnett’s nine-game winning streak.

Francisco Rodriguez struck out two in the eighth and John Axford worked the ninth for his 16th save in 21 opportunities.

Milwaukee trailed 1-0 entering the bottom of sixth before racking up four hits off Burnett (10-3) and receiving help from two Pittsburgh errors.

Nyjer Morgan and Ryan Braun began the inning with singles and Morgan came around to score on an errant throw by Pirates right fielder Garrett Jones. Ramirez followed with a single to center to put the Brewers ahead. An error by Pittsburgh third baseman Pedro Alvarez allowed Milwaukee’s third run to score and the inning was climaxed by Martin Maldonado’s double to shallow right.

Burnett allowed four runs (three earned) and eight hits in seven innings while losing for the first time since May 2. He struck out seven and walked none.

McCutchen had three hits to raise his league-leading batting average to .371.
