Cardinals 13, Brewers 1: Host St. Louis sent 12 batters to the plate in an eight-run third and cruised to its second straight win.

Skip Schumaker and Jon Jay each drove in three, and Matt Carpenter and Matt Holliday had two RBIs apiece as the first-place Cardinals opened a six-game homestand.

Aramis Ramirez’s first-inning RBI single put Milwaukee on top, the first time the Brewers had scored first in their last nine games. But Schumaker’s first triple of the season scored Yadier Molina and Carpenter to give St. Louis the lead in the second.

St. Louis erupted in the third. Jay led off with a single and later drilled a two-run single in the same inning. It was Jay’s first game back after he missed most of a six-game trip with a shoulder injury.

Jake Westbrook (3-1) went eight innings, allowing one run on seven hits and striking out five.

Yovani Gallardo (1-2) did not retire a batter in the third and was charged with eight earned runs over two innings.
