Gordon Beckham hit a two-run homer and had three RBIs as host Chicago regained sole possession of first place in the American League Central and snapped a four-game losing streak.

Hector Santiago (3-1) pitched five strong innings in his first major league start as the White Sox took a one-game lead over the Detroit Tigers, who lost 3-2 to the Cleveland Indians on Monday. Detroit swept Chicago over the weekend.

Paul Konerko added an RBI single in the seventh inning for Chicago, which won its eighth straight at home and is 22-5 in its last 27 contests at U.S. Cellular Field, and snapped an eight-game losing streak against AL Central teams.

Minnesota's Jamey Carroll homered in the fifth inning for Minnesota - his first since Aug. 9, 2009. According to Elias Sports Bureau, Carroll ended a streak of 1,348 at-bats without a homer, which was the longest in the majors.

Justin Morneau had an RBI single to cut the deficit to 3-2 in the eighth for the Twins, who lost their sixth straight game at U.S. Cellular Field and are 3-10 against the White Sox this season.

Minnesota's Samuel Deduno (5-3) yielded two runs, six hits and walked three in in six innings.

A.J. Pierzynski led off the second with a single and with two outs, Beckham lined an 0-2 changeup into the left field seats.

Kevin Youkilis, hitless in 19 at-bats entering the game, went 2-for-3. He doubled with one out in the seventh inning and after Adam Dunn flew out, scored when Konerko delivered a hard grounder up the middle.

Beckham added an RBI single in the eighth after Alexei Ramirez singled and stole second with two outs and Addison Reed worked the ninth for his 25th save in 29 chances.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Santiago, who has made 38 career relief appearances, allowed one run, three hits, three walks and struck out six. ... Youkilis is hitting .364 (28-for-77) in 23 home games at U.S. Cellular Field this season. ... Dunn returned after missing two games with a strained right oblique muscle and was 1-for-3. He is tied with Texas' Josh Hamilton for the major league lead with 38 homers. ... Minnesota's Joe Mauer went 1-for-2 and is hitting .363 in his career at U.S. Cellular Field. ...
