Diamondbacks 7, Nationals 4:
Paul Goldschmidt drove in three runs and Patrick Corbin tossed seven strong innings as host Arizona snapped Washington’s eight-game winning streak.

Corbin (4-4) gave up two runs on four hits with seven strikeouts for the Diamondbacks, who salvaged the third game of the series and won for only the third time in their last nine games.

After doing nearly everything right during its season-best winning streak, Washington’s defense faltered in the second inning when Goldschmidt reached second on Ryan Zimmerman’s throwing error and scored when catcher Kurt Suzuki’s throw sailed into left field.

Goldschmidt struck again in the third with a two-run double off Ross Detwiler (6-5), who allowed five runs (four earned) over 4 2/3 innings and remained winless in his last eight road starts.

The Diamondbacks knocked Detwiler out of the game in the fifth when Chris Young walked with one out and scored on Aaron Hill’s double to deep center field.

Craig Stammen replaced Detwiler and promptly gave up three straight hits, capped by Miguel Montero’s RBI double, and the Diamondbacks extended their lead to 7-0.

Washington, which fell two games short of matching its longest win streak in team history, scored twice in the seventh on Zimmerman’s RBI single and Adam LaRoche’s sacrifice fly.

The Nationals drew closer in the ninth, scoring two runs off Takashi Saito before J.J. Putz recorded the final two outs for his 22nd save. Washington leads the National League East by four games over Atlanta, which plays Sunday evening.
