Phillies 3, Padres 2: Cole Hamels returned from his five-game suspension and tossed seven sizzling innings and Jimmy Rollins belted his first homer of the season as host Philadelphia took two of three from San Diego.

Hamels (5-1) was forced to sit by Major League Baseball after he publicly admitted that he intentionally tried to hit Washington rookie Bryce Harper. The San Diego native improved to 8-2 in his career against his hometown team, beating the Padres for the second time this season after allowing one run and five hits.

Rollins set the tone early by belting his 38th career leadoff homer. He turned on an offering from veteran Jeff Suppan (2-1) and deposited it just a few seats beyond the right-field wall.

Brian Schneider had an RBI single in the second inning and scored on Juan Pierre's double in the fifth for the Phillies, who improved to 15-4 in their last 19 games against the Padres.

Jose Contreras and Antonio Bastardo combined to work the eighth inning before Jonathan Papelbon struck out a pair in the ninth for his 10th save.

Suppan permitted three runs on six hits in six innings to drop to 3-8 in his career versus the Phillies.
