Padres 7, Mets 3: Chase Headley and Yonder Alonso each hit a two-run homer off New York rookie Matt Harvey as host San Diego jumped out early and held off the Mets.

Carlos Quentin added his 11th home run and Jason Marquis (5-6) pitched 6 1/3 strong innings for the Padres, who won for just the third time in their last nine games.

Harvey (1-2) set a franchise record with 18 strikeouts in his first two major-league starts but did not have his sharp stuff on Sunday. The 23-year old right-hander was battered for five runs and eight hits in five innings while walking out and striking out five.

Headley started the onslaught in the first inning, coming up with one out and a runner on second and staying back on a 1-1 changeup. Headley got just enough air under the ball to land it on top of scoreboard in right field for his 15th home run and a 2-0 lead.

Alonso capped a three-run rally in the third with his sixth homer. Harvey tried to sneak a 2-2 fastball past the slugger and Alonso blasted it to straightaway center and into the batter’s eye.

Ronny Cedeno hit a two-run homer off Marquis in the sixth and Jason Bay added a sacrifice fly in the seventh to cut the deficit to 5-3.

But Quentin, who doubled in a run in the third, planted a solo homer into the left field stands in the seventh and the Padres tacked on another insurance run on Mark Kotsay’s RBI double in the eighth to put it away.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Ruben Tejada recorded two hits for New York, extending his hitting streak to 11 games. He has seven multi-hit games in that span. … San Diego RHP Cory Burns, who made his major league debut in relief and struck out two 1 1/3 scoreless innings on Saturday, was optioned back to the minors on Sunday. RHP Miles Mikolas was called up to take his place. … The Mets open a six-game homestand against the Miami Marlins on Tuesday while the Padres stay home to face the Chicago Cubs on Monday.
