Mets 6, Phillies 3: Jeremy Hefner recorded his first career victory and also hit his first major-league home run as host New York evened the three-game series.
Pinch hitter Scott Hairston belted a two-run homer while Omar Quintanilla went 3-for-4 and scored twice in his debut with the Mets, who have won six of eight.
Hefner (1-2) allowed three runs and six hits over six innings in his second start in the majors. The 26-year-old struck out four without a walk.
Two relievers bridged the gap to Frank Francisco, who struck out two in a scoreless ninth for his 14th save in 16 chances.
Philadelphia took an early lead as Jimmy Rollins led off the game with a double, moved to third on a sacrifice and scored on a wild pitch. David Wright and Ike Davis delivered RBI singles in the bottom of the first to put New York ahead, but former Met Brian Schneider hit a solo shot in the second to forge a tie.
Quintanilla, who spent last season with Texas, led off the bottom of the second with a double and scored on Mike Baxter's single two batters later to put the Mets in front for good. Hefner launched a two-out solo homer in the fourth and Hairston hit his team-leading sixth blast in the sixth for a 6-3 advantage.
Hefner escaped a jam in the sixth to maintain a slim one-run lead. Hunter Pence doubled and went to third on left fielder Baxter's fielding error, which allowed Juan Pierre to score. But Pence was stranded as Hefner retired the next three Phillies.
Joe Blanton (4-5) continued to struggle, surrendering six runs and nine hits in five innings. The right-hander has yielded 20 runs in 13 2/3 frames over his last three starts.
Rollins and Placido Polanco had two hits apiece for the Phillies, who had won five of six.
GAME NOTEBOOK: The Phillies lost another key player for a lengthy period as ace RH Roy Halladay was diagnosed with a strained right shoulder and is expected to be sidelined 6-to-8 weeks. The two-time Cy Young Award winner was placed on the 15-day disabled list. Philadelphia has been without fellow All-Stars Ryan Howard (Achilles tendon) and Chase Utley (knee) all season. ... Phillies RH Vance Worley, who has not pitched since May 11 due to elbow problems, threw his first bullpen session prior to Tuesday's game. He reported no pain and is slated to throw again on Friday. ... In four major-league appearances, Hefner has issued one walk over 17 2/3 innings.
