Pirates 4, Braves 2: Erik Bedard struck out a season-high nine in five innings and visiting Pittsburgh snapped Atlanta's three-game winning streak.

Alex Presley and Pedro Alvarez each had two hits and an RBI as the Pirates dealt the Braves only their fourth loss in the last 17 games.

Bedard (1-4) allowed one run on five hits to pick up his first victory despite allowing a total of nine runs in his five starts.

Three relievers bridged the gap to closer Joel Hanrahan, who retired the side in the ninth to record his fourth saves in as many chances.

Pittsburgh staked Bedard to a 3-0 lead after two innings, matching the total run support he received in his first four outings.

Presley extended his hitting streak to 12 games with an RBI double in the second and scored on Jose Tabata's run scoring single for a three-run lead.

Dan Uggla got Atlanta on the board with an RBI single in the third, but the Pirates got that one back on back-to-back doubles by Neil Walker and Alvarez in the fifth.

Michael Bourn, Martin Prado and Tyler Pastornicky each had two hits for the Braves, who lost for the second time in eight home games.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Braves catcher Brian McCann sat out with a strained right ribcage muscle suffered in Friday's game. He hopes to return to the lineup by Monday. ... Atlanta right-hander Tim Hudson will make his season debut Sunday. He has been rehabbing from offseason spinal fusion surgery. Hudson will be opposed by Pirates right-hander Kevin Correia. ... Pittsburgh's Andrew McCutchen extended his hitting streak to five games and Presley has hit safely in 17 of 19 games. ... Atlanta 3B Chipper Jones is planning to retire this season. His final three games are scheduled for Pittsburgh's PNC Park on Oct. 1-3.
