Yankees 5, Indians 4: Robinson Cano hit a two-run homer and Eric Chavez doubled in a pair as host New York completed a bittersweet three-game sweep of Cleveland.

Freddy Garcia (2-2) struck out two in 2 1/3 perfect innings of relief after Andy Pettitte was forced to leave early for the Yankees, who have won five straight but are suddenly scrambling for starters.

After teammate CC Sabathia was placed on the 15-day disabled list earlier Wednesday, Pettitte was removed in the fifth inning with a fractured left ankle. The veteran left-hander was carrying a 2-1 lead when Casey Kotchman sent a sharp grounder up the middle that hit Pettitte hard in the leg.

The 40-year-old will be out a minimum of six weeks.

Rafael Soriano walked in a run in the ninth but got Asdrubal Cabrera to fly out to left with the bases loaded to earn his 17th save.

New York took a 2-1 lead in the fourth on Chavez’s double off Ubaldo Jimenez (7-6) but fell behind after Pettitte left the game.

Cody Eppley and Clay Rapada combined to allow three hits while recording two outs before Garcia came in to end the fifth. Singles from Cabrera and Jason Kipnis put the Indians on top 3-2.

Cano got to Jimenez in the sixth. With Alex Rodriguez on base, Cano went with a 1-2 breaking ball on the outside part of the plate and sent it into the stands in left-center for his 18th blast and a 4-3 lead.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Adam Warren is expected to be recalled to take Sabathia’s spot in the rotation on Friday and Garcia would be in line to step in for Pettitte’s next turn. Pettitte will not require surgery but will be on crutches. … Jimenez issued four walks for the second straight start. He has issued a total of three free passes in his three previous turns. … Sabathia has a strained left groin and is expected to miss two starts.
