Twins 7, Yankees 3: Minnesota’s Carl Pavano picked up his first win of the season, allowing three runs in seven innings against his old team, as the Twins broke a three-game losing streak.

Pavano (1-1) was booed lustily by the New York fans, who recalled the right-hander’s lack of success during his injury-riddled stint in the Bronx from 2005-08. The rude greeting didn’t seem to bother the veteran, who pitched around seven hits, including homers by Derek Jeter and Curtis Granderson to start the game, and struck out six in his longest outing of the season.

Brian Duensing and Matt Capps each pitched a scoreless inning of relief to close the game for the Twins.

Trailing 3-2, Minnesota took the lead with a two-run rally in the fifth that was sparked by Joe Mauer’s RBI double to shallow right. The Twins made it 5-3 on Justin Morneau’s solo homer to deep center, his second, and added a pair of insurance runs in the eighth.

Mauer, starting at DH, had three hits, and Morneau, starting his first game of the season at first base, had two hits to spark Minnesota’s 14-hit outburst.

Yankees starter Freddy Garcia (0-1), struggling to hold onto his spot in the starting rotation, gave up five runs in 5 2/3 innings.
