The Blue Jays broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the seventh when Omar Vizquel singled in a run with two outs and Hechavarria followed with a two-run shot to left field off Jon Lester (9-12), who allowed just one hit over the first six innings.

Boston, which was seeking its first three-game winning streak since July 28-31, had runners at the corners with one out in the eighth before Darren Oliver induced a Cody Ross inning-ending double play.
