He finished with a season-high nine strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings, giving up three hits and walking one. Matt Thornton worked the final 1 1/3 innings for the save.

Chicago got all of the offense it needed in the first inning when Dunn followed up an RBI single by Alex Rios by crushing a two-run homer to right off Josh Beckett (2-3). Dayan Viciedo added an insurance run with an RBI base hit in the eighth.

Cody Ross, who broke up Floyd’s perfect game with a fifth-inning walk, got the Red Sox on the board with a two-out RBI single in the seventh inning.

Beckett pitched 6 2/3 innings, departing after he walked Brent Lillibridge to load the bases with two out in the seventh. He allowed three runs on six hits with eight strikeouts and two walks.
