Orioles 12, Blue Jays 2:
Chris Davis hit two of Baltimore’s seven home runs and totaled five RBIs as the host Orioles hammered their way past Toronto.

Manny Machado recorded his second multi-homer game with a pair of blasts and Mark Reynolds, Nate McLouth and Jim Thome each went deep for the Orioles, who pulled to within 1 1/2 games of the New York Yankees in the American League East. The Yankees won at Minnesota on Wednesday afternoon.

Baltimore did the bulk of its damage in a five-run fifth inning against Blue Jays right-hander Carlos Villanueva (7-7). Thome led off the frame by sending a line drive over the tall scoreboard in right, and Machado came up three batters later and deposited a 2-1 breaking ball into the Orioles' bullpen in left-center field. The next two batters singled in front of Davis, who got a hanging breaking ball on an 0-2 count and put it in the second row in right-center for his 27th homer and a 6-2 cushion.

That was plenty of support for Miguel Gonzalez (8-4), who allowed two runs on five hits while striking out one in seven innings. The rookie right-hander has surrendered two home runs or less in seven of his last nine turns.

The Orioles added two-run homers in each of the next three innings, with Reynolds going deep in the sixth, Davis belting his 28th homer in the seventh and Machado connecting again in the eighth.

GAME NOTEBOOK:
The Orioles placed LHP Randy Wolf (elbow) on the disabled list. The veteran appeared in only five games for Baltimore before going down last weekend and could be headed for Tommy John surgery for the second time in his career. … Edwin Encarnacion and McLouth traded solo homers to get things started in the first inning. It was the 42nd blast for Encarnacion, who moved within one of Texas’ Josh Hamilton for the major-league lead. … Baltimore hosts Boston in a three-game series starting Friday while the Blue Jays head home to host the Yankees on Thursday.
