Twins 19, Orioles 7:
Denard Span hit a bases-clearing double during a seven-run first inning and totaled five RBIs while Joe Mauer homered and drove in two to lead host Minnesota in a rout of Baltimore.

Ben Revere and Justin Morneau piled up four hits apiece while Span totaled three and Mauer, Josh Willingham, Jamey Carroll and Trevor Plouffe each finished with two for the Twins, who reached a season high in runs scored and totaled 20 hits in snapping a five-game slide.

Minnesota knocked Orioles starter Chris Tillman out in the first inning with the help of some poor fielding that kept the big inning alive. Trailing 1-0 with two outs, Mark Reynolds failed to cleanly pick a grounder at first base that allowed two runs to score. Brian Dozier followed with an RBI single and Span’s double broke the game open two batters later.

Tillman (1-1) was charged with seven runs (one earned) and five hits while walking two and striking out one in two-thirds of an inning.

The Twins added one more in the second on Mauer’s solo homer, pushed two across in the third and made it 11-2 by the end of the fourth.

Baltimore fought back for three runs in the fifth on Reynolds’ three-run blast but Minnesota kept coming.

Morneau highlighted a three-run sixth with an RBI double and the Twins put another five runs on the board in the eighth. Span slugged a two-run double in the rally.

The beneficiary of all the support was Scott Diamond (8-3), who allowed five runs and nine hits in six innings.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The only Minnesota starter without a hit was Ryan Doumit, who went 0-for-4 with a run scored and two RBIs. … Reynolds has committed 10 errors this season, six at third base and four at first. He led the majors with 31 miscues in 2011. … Baltimore 2B Robert Andino had an MRI on Monday that revealed a strained left shoulder. He will be out 3-to-4 weeks. … Nick Markakis, Reynolds and Adam Jones recorded three hits apiece for the Orioles.
