Orioles 5, Athletics 2: Wilson Betemit hit a three-run homer with one out in the bottom of the ninth to give host Baltimore a dramatic victory.

Betemit lined the shot off Oakland closer Grant Balfour (0-1) to cap a five-run ninth inning as the Orioles won their 57th consecutive game when allowing two runs or less.

Baltimore trailed 2-0 entering the ninth after struggling against Oakland veteran Bartolo Colon, who allowed two runs or less for the fifth time in six starts.

J.J. Hardy and Adam Jones had infield hits off Colon in the ninth, and both runners moved up on Colon’s wild throw to first after fielding Jones’ tapper. Balfour entered and allowed a two-run double to Matt Wieters that short-hopped the left-center field fence for his second blown save.

Balfour walked Chris Davis intentionally before Betemit delivered the game-winning blow to right field.

Pedro Strop (3-1) pitched a scoreless ninth for the Orioles.

Colon pitched 8 1/3 solid innings for Oakland. He gave up two runs and seven hits.

Yoenis Cespedes had an RBI double in the sixth and Seth Smith homered for the Athletics.

Baltimore’s Tommy Hunter allowed two runs and seven hits in seven innings.

GAME NOTEBOOK:
Slumping Oakland second baseman Jemile Weeks (.193) was given the day off … Baltimore outfielder Nolan Reimold went 1-for-4 to extend his hitting streak to 14 games … Wieters was back in the lineup after missing Saturday’s game with an illness.
