Chris Heisey belted a career-high three homers and drove in five runs as the Cincinnati Reds salvaged the nightcap of their doubleheader on Wednesday with a 10-2 home triumph over the New York Yankees.
Jonny Gomes added a solo shot and Scott Rolen drove in a pair of runs for Cincinnati, which dropped a 4-2 decision in the first game of the doubleheader.
Heisey opened the scoring with a solo blast in the first inning and added a two-run shot in the fifth. After he beat a throw to second base to allow Rolen to score in the seventh inning, Heisey capped the scoring with a two-run shot in the eighth.
The offensive outburst was more than enough for Johnny Cueto (5-2), who collected his third straight win after allowing just one run on two hits while striking out six.
Nick Swisher launched a solo homer and Alex Rodriguez had an RBI double for New York, which fell for just the third time in 13 games.
Brian Gordon (0-1) permitted four runs - including three home runs - on five hits in five innings to take the loss.
