John Lannan pitched 6 1/3 strong innings and the Washington Nationals won consecutive road games for the first time in a month with a 2-1 victory over the San Diego Padres on Saturday.

Lannan (4-5) gave up one run on six hits and two walks to pick up the win. He has allowed just two earned runs in his last 26 1/3 innings, and Washington has won six of his last seven starts.

Drew Storen recorded his 14th save of the season and second in as many games with a scoreless ninth inning.

Rookie Anthony Rizzo provided the Padres’ lone run with his first major league home run in the second inning. Clayton Richard (2-8) was the hard-luck loser after giving up two runs on five hits in seven innings.

The Nationals won consecutive games in San Diego for the first time since Sept. 11-12, 1999, when the team was known as the Montreal Expos.

Danny Espinosa and Wilson Ramos each knocked in a run in the first inning for Washington, which last won back-to-back road games on May 10-11 in Atlanta.
