David Murphy's three-run double highlighted a six-run fifth inning that lifted the Texas Rangers to an 8-7 win over the visiting Kansas City Royals on Sunday.

Murphy's bases-clearing double to the left-center field gap gave the Rangers an 8-2 edge, and Texas (14-7) held on from there en route to a sweep of the Royals (12-10). Texas had chased losing pitcher Bruce Chen (3-1) earlier in the inning on an Andres Blanco solo home run and a Michael Young RBI single that extended his hitting streak to 14 games.

Reliever Jeremy Jeffress came on and issued a bases-loaded walk to Mike Napoli before surrendering Murphy's big hit.

That made a winner out of Rangers starter C.J. Wilson (3-0), who allowed four runs on eight hits while striking out 10 over seven innings. Reliever Brett Tomko surrendered a three-run shot to Mike Aviles – his second home run of the game – with two outs in the ninth inning, but Arthur Rhodes came on and induced Melky Cabrera to ground out for his first save of the season.

Chen, who came into the game with a 10.18 career ERA against the Rangers, was charged with six runs on seven hits over 4 1/3 frames.

Napoli and Adrian Beltre also homered for the Rangers. Beltre's fourth-inning solo blast was his seventh of the season, moving him into a tie for the American League lead.

Jeff Francoeur had a solo homer for the Royals, who have dropped four of five.
