Ryan Zimmerman hit a two-run, walk-off single with the bases loaded in the ninth to lift the Washington Nationals to an 8-7 victory over the New York Mets on Saturday.

Rookie pitcher Tom Milone made some history with his bat and Jesus Flores had three hits for the Nationals, who won for just the second time in the last 11 games.

Milone became the eighth major league pitcher to homer on the first pitch he saw. He came up with two on in the second and turned on a fastball from Dillon Gee, pulling it into the Nationals bullpen in right field for a three-run blast.

Trailing by a run entering the ninth, Flores led off with a single off Mets closer Bobby Parnell, who then unleashed a wild pitch and walked a batter. Ian Desmond sacrificed the runners over and Parnell (3-5) intentionally walked Roger Bernadina, bringing Zimmerman to the plate.

The star slugger worked a 2-1 count and then got enough of a 100 mph fastball to dump it into left field, scoring two runs.

Milone allowed just one hit through the first three innings and was removed in the fifth inning with a 5-4 lead.

Sean Burnett (5-5) earned the win in relief.
