Daniel Murphy belted a pinch-hit solo homer in the eighth inning to tie the game and added a two-run double in the ninth as the New York Mets recorded their sixth straight win with a 6-3 road triumph over the Washington Nationals on Wednesday.
With Washington nursing a 3-2 lead in the ninth inning, the Mets quickly loaded the bases off Sean Burnett (0-1). Chin-lung Hu's sacrifice fly to deep right field plated Jason Bay and Ike Davis scored on Josh Thole's groundout one batter later to give the Mets the lead.
Murphy then stepped to the plate and ripped a double down the right-field line to bring home former National Willie Harris and Jose Reyes to cap the four-run inning.
Justin Turner collected his first RBI as a member of the Mets with an opposite-field single in the third inning. Davis went 2-for-4 to extend his hitting streak to nine games for New York (11-13).
Pedro Beato (1-0) permitted one run on one hit in one inning to pick up his first career win. Francisco Rodriguez worked around a double in the ninth to secure his sixth save of the season.
Rick Ankiel slapped an RBI double, and Michael Morse and Willie Ramos each had a sacrifice fly for Washington (10-13), which suffered its sixth loss in seven games.
