Carlos Beltran hit his first two home runs of the season and Chris Capuano struck out eight over six innings in his first start for New York, as the Mets snapped a three-game losing streak with an 8-4 victory over the Washington Nationals on Saturday night at Citi Field.

Beltran belted a two-run shot in the first and followed it with a solo homer in the fourth. Both home runs came against starter Tom Gorzelanny (0-1), who lasted 5 1-3 innings and allowed six runs — five earned — on four hits in his Nationals debut.

Capuano (1-0) made two mistakes, giving up a three-run home run to rookie Danny Espinosa in the second and a solo blast to Ian Desmond in the fifth, but he was otherwise solid. The left-hander allowed four runs on seven hits and walked one.

Desmond's first of the season gave the Nationals a 4-3 lead, but Ike Davis put the Mets in front with a two-run triple in the sixth, Daniel Murphy added an RBI single later in the inning and Jose Reyes had a two-run double in the eighth.

Davis has at least one RBI in seven of the Mets' eight games. Reyes' double accounted for the first runs scored against the Nationals' bullpen in 12 innings.

The Nationals got the first two men on in the eighth, but Bobby Parnell struck out Rick Ankiel and Espinosa, and Francisco Rodriguez retired Matt Stairs to end the inning before pitching a scoreless ninth for his first save.
