Dan Uggla extended his hitting streak to 29 games, Alex Gonzalez hit a three-run home run and the Atlanta Braves beat the Florida Marlins 8-5 on Monday at Sun Life Stadium.

Uggla extended his hitting streak to 29 games with an infield single in the fifth inning, one short of the longest streak in the majors this season. Uggla is two games shy of the franchise record set by Rico Carty in 1970.

Atlanta has won six of eight meetings with the Marlins this season.

For the second straight game, Gonzalez extended his hitting streak with a home run. Gonzalez hit his 10th homer in the fifth to push his streak to nine games.

Atlanta's Freddie Freeman capped a four-run second with a two-run single, one day after having his career-best 20-game hitting streak snapped.

Freeman was ejected for throwing down his bat after striking out to end the eighth. Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez also was ejected in the fourth for arguing balls and strikes from the dugout.

John Buck's two-run home run pulled the Marlins within three in the ninth, but Craig Kimbrel struck out the only two batters he faced to end the threat and earn his 35th save.

The Marlins have lost five straight since climbing back to .500 on Tuesday. Florida was without three regular starters – outfielder Logan Morrison (knee), shortstop Hanley Ramirez (shoulder) and second baseman Omar Infante (finger).
