Mike Carp and Casper Wells hit back-to-back homers in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift the Seattle Mariners to a 6-5 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday.

Carp’s second homer of the game tied the contest against Trever Miller, and Wells followed with the game-winning shot off Jon Rauch (5-4) as Seattle won its third straight game.

Tom Wilhelmsen (1-0) picked up his first major league victory with a scoreless eighth and Brandon League retired Jose Bautista on an infield bouncer with a runner on first in the ninth for his 30th save.

Carp also homered in the third inning against Toronto starter Henderson Alvarez while extending his hitting streak to 15 games.

The Blue Jays rocked Seattle rookie Michael Pineda for three homers. Eric Thames and Adam Lind each hit two-run homers and rookie Brett Lawrie hit a solo homer.

Lawrie, a 21-year-old rookie, has three homers in 10 major league games. He grew up a couple hours away in British Columbia and had a large cheering section for his first game at Safeco Field.

Seattle scored three second-inning runs on Trayvon Robinson’s double, Jack Wilson’s single and Ichiro Suzuki’s sacrifice fly.

Pineda gave up five runs and six hits in five innings. Alvarez gave up four runs and six hits in five-plus innings.
