Tommy Hunter threw seven scoreless innings to lift the Baltimore Orioles to an 8-3 win over the visiting Los Angeles Angels on Friday night.
The Angels remained 3 1/2 games behind Texas in the American League West. The Rangers lost at Seattle 4-0 on Friday.
Nolan Reimold belted a two-run homer and Mark Reynolds added a solo shot for Baltimore, which has won three straight and six of nine.
Hunter (4-4) snapped a two-game losing streak and won for the first time since Aug. 26. It was the first time he didn't allow a run in nine starts this year.
Dan Haren (15-9) was battered for seven runs in five innings as he was denied in his bid for a career high-tying 16th win.
J.J. Hardy had a pair of hits and drove in three runs, matching his RBI total for the month.
Reynolds, who was 0-for-19 in his previous five games, hit his 33rd homer and Reimold went deep for the second time in as many games, giving the Orioles five homers in two games.
Hank Conger's two-run homer and Alexi Amarista's RBI double in the ninth accounted for Los Angeles' runs.
