Edwin Encarnacion’s three-run double capped a five-run eighth inning as the Toronto Blue Jays denied Tim Wakefield his 200th career victory with an 11-10 come-from-behind win over the visiting Boston Red Sox on Wednesday.

Boston remained 2½ games behind New York in the American League East and saw its lead over Tampa Bay in the AL wild card standings shrink to seven games.

The Blue Jays entered the eighth trailing 8-6 and sent nine men to the plate, with only two getting hits. Daniel Bard (2-6) walked four batters and hit another, and allowed the tying run to score on a walk to Jose Bautista.

Matt Albers replaced Bard and surrendered Encarnacion’s bases-clearing, two-out double to the right center field gap. Encarnacion finished with five RBIs.

Wakefield seemed headed for his milestone win after surviving five shaky innings, but the Boston bullpen couldn’t hold an 8-5 lead. Wakefield, in his seventh attempt for No. 200, allowed five runs, three hits and three walks.

Jacoby Ellsbury paced Boston with four hits including his 25th homer, a three-run shot which gave Boston a 7-5 lead. David Ortiz hit his 29th homer of the season to make it 8-5 in the fifth.

Shawn Camp (4-3) picked up the win in relief for Toronto. Starter Brandon Morrow was roughed up for eight runs in 4 1/3 innings.

Toronto’s Adam Loewen singled in the eighth off Bard for his first major league hit.

Boston closed the gap with two runs in the ninth when Adrian Gonzalez homered and Marco Scutaro added an RBI single.
