Andrew Miller threw six strong innings for his first win with Boston and Adrian Gonzalez had his 36th multi-hit game of the season, as the Red Sox snapped a four-game losing streak and avoided a three-game sweep with a 4-2 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday at PNC Park.

Miller (1-0), making his second start since being called up from Triple-A Pawtucket, struck out four and allowed one earned run.

Three of Boston's runs were unearned, as it took advantage of a season-high four errors by the Pirates.

Gonzalez went 2-for-3 to raise his major league-leading batting average to .361. Boston's Dustin Pedroia went 1-for-5 to extend his hitting streak to 11 games.

Pittsburgh's Jose Tabata left the game with a left quadriceps injury after beating out a bunt single in the first inning.
