Mired in a season-long slump, Carl Crawford stroked a walk-off single with two outs in the ninth inning to lift the Boston Red Sox to a 3-2 win over the visiting Seattle Mariners on Sunday.

Crawford, who entered the game batting .155, singled up the middle to score Jed Lowrie from third base with the winning run. Lowrie tripled when Ichiro Suzuki lost a fly ball in the sun in right field. The ball hit Ichiro in the leg and bounced to the warning track.

Jonathan Papelbon (1-0) picked up the win by pitching a perfect ninth inning.

David Ortiz doubled home two runs in the third inning as Boston took a 2-0 lead.

The Mariners tied the game in the sixth as Bobby Jenks walked both Jack Cust and Luis Rodriguez with the bases loaded.

Neither starter figured in the decision. Tim Wakefield made the start in place of Clay Buchholz (illness) for Boston (12-15) and allowed one run in 5 2/3 innings.

Felix Hernandez went seven innings for the Mariners, allowing two runs on six hits while fanning 10 as Seattle (13-16) had its five-game winning snapped. Jamey Wright (0-1) took the loss.
