Ryan Zimmerman and Adam Dunn each drove in four runs to lead a potent offensive attack as the Washington Nationals secured a 14-4 win over the Houston Astros on Monday.
Zimmerman homered and scored three runs and Carlos Maldonado added a three-run homer as part of Washington’s 14-hit attack. Ian Desmond drove in a pair of runs and Josh Willingham had two hits and an RBI.
The Nationals big blow came in a nine-run seventh against relievers Jeff Fulchino, who was tagged for five runs, and Chris Sampson, who was responsible for four runs.
With four runs already across, Maldonado belted his first homer of the campaign and Zimmerman followed later with a three-run shot of his own for the 14-2 advantage.
Luis Atilano (5-1) was the beneficiary of the onslaught, getting the win in scattering six hits over 6 2/3 innings.
Nyjer Morgan had three hits, scored four runs and stole two bases and Cristian Guzman finished with three hits and three runs at the top of the Washington lineup.
Houston starter Roy Oswalt (3-7) was saddled with the loss, allowing four runs on four hits before being ejected in the third inning for arguing balls and strikes.
