Vicente Padilla threw 6 2/3 strong innings and the Los Angeles Dodgers made use of the long ball in a 7-2 victory over the Florida Marlins on Tuesday.

Padilla yielded two runs and six hits while striking out nine and walking none to improve his record to 3-2. Michael Stanton’s two-run homer in the seventh inning ended both Padilla’s shutout bid and his night overall.

The majority of the Dodgers offense came from home runs, courtesy of Matt Kemp, Casey Blake and Andre Ethier.

Rafael Furcal started the scoring in the second inning with a two-run single and Kemp immediately followed with his home run to make it 4-0.

Blake hit his blast an inning later and Ethier went yard in the fifth to make it a 6-0 game.

Furcal picked up his third RBI of the night in the eighth with another single that scored Blake DeWitt.

Florida starter Chris Volstad struggled Tuesday, giving up five runs on five hits and three walks in three innings. The 23-year-old righty saw his record drop to 4-8.

Florida made it interesting in the ninth when Stanton singled in his third RBI of the night to make it 7-3 with two runners on and one out, but Los Angeles brought in closer Jonathan Broxton who promptly retired the next two batters to earn his 18th save of the season.

The Dodgers also stole five bases, their highest total since June 29, 2007.
