Carlos Ruiz went 4-for-5 and delivered the go-ahead single in a four-run ninth inning as the Philadelphia Phillies defeated the host Colorado Rockies 9-5 on Monday.
Ruiz also hit a game-tying homer in the seventh and Shane Victorino reached base five times and scored three runs for the Phillies.
Ross Gload hit a pinch-hit, three-run homer off Manny Corpas (1-2) immediately following Ruiz’s ninth-inning hit.
Reliever Danys Baez (1-1) recorded the victory by pitching a scoreless eighth inning.
Trailing 5-4, Colorado tied the score in the bottom of the seventh when Jason Giambi singled in Dexter Fowler for his third RBI of the game.
Colorado led 2-1 after three innings with Giambi twice driving in Seth Smith on a first-inning single and a third-inning sacrifice fly.
Victorino went 2-for-3, tripling twice and drawing three walks. Colorado’s Smith went 3-for-5 and scored three runs.
Phillies starter Kyle Kendrick gave up four runs and eight hits in six innings, while Colorado starter Greg Smith allowed five runs – four earned – and eight hits in 5 2/3 innings.
