Scott Rolen and Jay Bruce each drove in a pair of runs and the Cincinnati Reds rallied past the Los Angeles Dodgers 8-5 in the finale of a three-game series on Thursday.
Rookie Mike Leake (1-0) picked up the victory, becoming the first Reds starter of the season to earn a win. Leake went seven innings, allowing eight hits and all five runs in the see-saw affair.
Francisco Cordero closed out the game for his sixth save.
The Reds trailed 5-4 entering the bottom of the seventh inning but scored four times in the frame highlighted by Rolen’s go-ahead two-run double. Bruce hit a two-run homer, his third of the year, in the sixth.
Andre Ethier and Garret Anderson both hit two-run homers for the Dodgers.
Los Angeles had nine hits in the game, one night after pounding out 18 in a 14-6 win over the Reds. The Dodgers lead the majors in batting.
Hong-Chih Kuo (0-1) took the loss for the Dodgers in relief of Vicente Padilla.
