Matt Diaz homered and drove in three runs and Jair Jurrjens gave the Atlanta Braves another strong pitching performance as the Braves reclaimed the best record in the National League by beating the San Diego Padres 4-1 on Tuesday at Turner Field.

Chris Denorfia got the Padres on the board with a solo home run in the second -- his third homer in two games -- but San Diego didn't muster anything more against Jurrjens.

Jurrjens (3-3) lasted seven innings, allowing just the one run on five hits to improve to 3-0 since coming off the disabled list June 30. He struck out seven and walked three.

Jonny Venters, who will appeal his four-game suspension for throwing consecutive pitches at Milwaukee's Prince Fielder on Saturday, pitched a scoreless eighth and Billy Wagner worked a perfect ninth for his 22nd save in 25 opportunities.

The Braves took the lead on Diaz's two-run shot in the fourth, his fourth homer of the season and his third in three games. Atlanta padded the lead with two runs in the seventh, scoring on Jason Heyward's second double of the night and Diaz's RBI single. Heyward added three hits and an RBI for the Braves as well.

San Diego starter Wade LeBlanc (4-8) allowed two runs on five hits over six innings to take the loss. LeBlanc hasn't won since June 12, though Tuesday marked his fourth quality start in six outings since his last win.
