St. Louis made use of the long ball and an effective debut by Jeff Suppan to score a 4-2 victory over the Seattle Mariners Tuesday night.

Suppan was signed earlier this week after being released by Milwaukee. He gave up one run on four hits and two walks in four innings while striking out two.
He did not factor in the decision as he failed to pitch five innings but did lower his ERA to 7.20.

Seattle opened the scoring at 1-0, courtesy of a Milton Bradley solo home run in the top of the fourth inning.

St. Louis came right back in the bottom of the frame to take the lead, as a two-run shot by Colby Rasmus made it 2-1 and Brendan Ryan singled in a run as well.

Albert Pujols added some insurance the next inning with a solo shot of his own, his 15th of the season.

St. Louis’ bullpen handled it from there. Blake Hawksworth (1-3) pitched 1 2/3 innings of relief to get credited the win. Trever Miller and Kyle McClellan then bridged the gap to closer Ryan Franklin, who gave up a solo homer to Ryan Langerhans but notched his 12th save of the season.

Seattle starter Ryan Rowland-Smith (0-6) took the loss, giving up three runs on seven hits in four innings as well. The Mariners are 3-10 in games started by Rowland-Smith this season.
