John Buck belted three home runs to lead the Toronto Blue Jays to a 6-3 victory over the Oakland Athletics on Thursday.
Buck, who entered the game in the midst of a 2-for-33 slump, homered in the third, fourth and sixth innings. He finished with five RBIs in helping the Jays snap a five-game losing streak.
Oakland built a 3-0 lead before Buck took over. He and Travis Snider opened the third with back-to-back homers to cut the deficit to 3-2. Buck then cracked a three-run homer an inning later to give Toronto a 5-3 lead.
Ricky Romero (2-1) picked up the win for the Blue Jays, allowing three runs on four hits while striking out six in six innings.
Kevin Gregg struck out the side in the ninth for his sixth save.
Justin Duchscherer (2-1) took the loss and was charged with four runs in three-plus innings before leaving with hip pain.
Buck who entered the game with one homer and six RBIs on the season, hit his longest blast of the game for another solo shot in the sixth, before flying out to right field in his final at bat.
It was the sixth multi-homer game of Buck’s career and first time he hit three homers in a game. Teammate Adam Lind achieved the feat for the Blue Jays last season.
Jake Fox had a pair of RBIs for Oakland, which has lost three straight.
