Pat Burrell and Reid Brignac homered and the Tampa Bay Rays continued their winning ways with an 8-6 victory over the Oakland Athletics Tuesday night.
The Rays have won 12 of their past 14 games and own the best record in baseball. At 15-5 they are off to the best start in club history.
Tampa Bay scored four runs on five hits in the second inning. Carlos Pena and John Jaso drove in one run apiece and Jason Bartlett, who had three hits, added a two-run double.
Oakland tied it at 4-4 in the third inning, highlighted by a three-run homer from Cliff Pennington.
The Rays answered with a three-run homer by Burrell in the bottom of the third and a solo shot by Brignac in the fourth.
Wade Miller (2-1) notched the win, surrendering seven hits over five innings. Rafael Soriano pitched a perfect ninth for his fifth save.
Ben Sheets (1-2) took the loss in allowing all eight runs on nine hits in four innings.
Pennington and Adam Rosales both finished with four hits for the A’s.
