Jose Guillen's power surge continued and the Kansas City Royals defeated the Detroit Tigers 7-3 in the deciding game of the three-game series at Comerica Park Wednesday.
Guillen had three hits and smacked his fifth home run in the last four games as Kansas City broke open a 3-3 tie with a pair of runs in the seventh inning. Billy Butler had sacrifice flies in the seventh and eighth innings.
Kyle Davies (1-0) got the win allowing three runs on seven hits in 6 1/3 innings and the much-maligned Royals' bullpen worked the rest of the way without allowing a hit. Joakim Soria got his second save. John Parrish made his sixth appearance of the season and has yet to allow a hit or run.
Kansas City pounded out 17 hits in the contest. The Royals have 45 hits in their past three games.
Detroit struck first as Magglio Ordonez belted his third home run of the season in the first inning.
Kansas City took a 2-1 lead in the second on a two-run double by David DeJesus. The Royals made it 3-1 on a bloop single by Jason Kendall in the third.
Detroit tied the game in the fifth. Johnny Damon had an RBI double and the Tigers made it 3-3 on a run-scoring double play Miguel Cabrera.
Ryan Perry (0-1) took the loss in relief of Tigers starter Rick Porcello, who allowed 10 hits and three runs in six innings. Brandon Inge doubled in the second inning. Inge has at least one hit in all nine games this season.
