Alex Rios belted a two-out, two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning as the Chicago White Sox came back to defeat the Seattle Mariners, 5-4, on Saturday afternoon.
The White Sox scored three runs in the frame as Paul Konerko’s solo home run tied things and Rios followed three batters with the game-winner off Seattle closer David Aardsma (0-1).
The Mariners grabbed a 4-2 advantage with a pair of runs in the top half of the ninth when Casey Kotchman hit a ground-rule double that scored Jose Lopez and Jack Wilson.
Bobby Jenks (1-0) was credited with the win despite allowing the two runs that gave Seattle the lead.
Franklin Gutierrez homered in the fourth for the Mariners’ 1-0 advantage. After Chicago tied it in the fifth on a double from Alexei Ramirez, Lopez evened the score at 2-2 with a double for Seattle.
Both starters were sharp in getting no-decisions. Freddy Garcia allowed two runs on two hits over seven innings for the White Sox. Seattle starter Doug Fister went eight frames, giving up two runs on eight hits.
